Wow, Diaryland…still alive and kicking after all this time. I wonder if I can use this online journal experiences as “knowledge of web 2.0 technology” on my CV? I’d love to leave the url in the ol’ resume and see what a prospective supervisor has to say. Hell, there are many other far more scandalous blogs out there in the …ahem… blogosphere, maybe mine will look so tame in comparison that it won’t affect my hireability.
Updates….well, if anyone remembers I was still doing my damnable thesis when I stopped updating this thing. I did finally finish and am now the (not so) proud owner of an M.A.. I also stepped foot into the working world after having enjoyed a prolonged adolescence thanks to grad school and a healthy dislike of all things work. Then somehow I ended up going from data monkey at a conference planning company, to Senior Marketing Manager at a biotechnology firm. I know eh? Pay still sucked because my relative lack of experience didn’t “merit that kind of renumeration” but they were happy to dish out the title. Titles are really all it is about when it comes to the next job though, so I guess they were doing me (if not my student debt) a favour.
Next, the big move. After 7 years in Canada’s most fun and cheap city (Montreal for those who don’t know), I elected to move with (… what cute little nickname did I give my now partner of 5 years?... Ah well, we can call her HB) HB out to the Left Coast. Yes, I am now a resident of that little retirement community called Victoria. 2.5 months here and already I complain when the temperature in January dips below 3. The initial month living in the in-law’s basement was actually rather painless, but we are all moved in to a large 2 bedroom in the next soon-to-be-gentrified area.
Then…then I was laid off. I didn’t mention that my biotech job allowed me to switch and work from home as a PR manager. Allowing me to move with a flexible work from home kind of situation. Then…buh-bye. This is for the best, the fucking stress was killing me anyway.
So bla bla bla here I am updating this thing because I am now living the life of the unemployed. Sleeping late, applying for about 4 jobs/week, and trying not to die of job search anxiety related complications.
If anyone from the old d.land gang is in Victoria or wants to visit from Vancouver, please drop me a line. We can have coffee, cause damn this part of the country knows how to do coffee. And also, I am bored out of my skull and need to yammer at at someone about…everything.
